BlackRock creates Aussie fundamental equities team

Posted by Anton Murray Consulting on 27 May, 2015

Global fund manager BlackRock has created an Australian fundamental equities team with two new appointments.

Former Perpetual executive Charlie Lanchester has been appointed as head of Australian fundamental equities, with Madeleine Beaumont as senior portfolio manager.

“The BlackRock Australia business will benefit greatly from having a fundamental equities team,” the firm’s country head, Justin Arter, said.

“Charlie and Madeleine will add a new dimension to BlackRock Australia which has grown strongly over the past three years,” he said.

Mr Lanchester and Ms Beaumont will be responsible for building a fundamental equities team and developing a product offering for clients.

“It is important for the future of BlackRock Australia that we participate in all the major investment areas of our clients, and fundamental equities is a core component for investors in Australia,” Mr Arter said.

Mr Lanchester will report to Alpha Strategies’ chief investment officer, Asia Pacific, Belinda Boa.

“The Australian market holds a lot of opportunity for top-performing fundamental equity teams, whether raising assets locally or supplementing global mandates managed elsewhere,” Ms Boa said.

“By bringing top investors like Charlie and Madeleine to BlackRock, we are building our fundamental equity capabilities here and worldwide and complementing the successful quantitative equity work already underway in Australia,” she said.
