Broking industry recommends 2016 start for T+2 cycle

A peak industry representative group on Monday recommended Australia move to a shorter two-day settlement cycle for cash equities trading, rebuffing some calls to make the change next year but advocating a 2016 start date.

The 22-member Australian Securities Exchange Forum, which includes senior executives from Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Macquarie Group and Patersons Securities, has agreed to urge the boards of ASX Clear and ASX Settlement to adopt the change in the first quarter of calendar year 2016.

There is nothing like an M&A boom to make bankers and advisers happy, which explained the jovial mood around the table at the KPMG/AFR M&A round table.

Buoyed by Thomson Reuters figures showing $US69.5 billion ($73.8 billion) of mergers and acquisitions in the first half – the strongest first half since 2011, and twice the activity of the same period last year – M&A players see the strong market continuing until the end of the year.

Super funds set for fifth year of growth

Super funds are set for a fifth consecutive annual return after another positive month in May, according to Chant West and SuperRatings.

With only one month remaining, the cumulative return for this financial year stands at 12.6 per cent, according to research by Chant West.

Nomura bolsters Asian wealth management business

Nomura has announced a series of moves to drive growth across its wealth management business in Asia, including Japan.

The bank has set up a new wealth management business division within the retail group, integrating the current Japanese and Asian teams.

HSBC shuffles Asian ECM desk

Ehren Vokes, a director at HSBC’s Asia equity syndicate desk, has moved into an origination role within ECM, according to an internal memo seen by GlobalCapital Asia.

Vokes is responsible for covering Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines in his new role and reports to Alexis Adamczyk and Tom Lanners, co-heads of Apac ECM.
