Salary description: $35-50 per hour + super

Our client is a leading global investment bank seeking an experienced Accountant with fluent Japanese language skills to join their Finance division for an initial 12-month contract.


  • Provide support to the Asia Accounts Payable (AP) governance team with a Japan focus
  • Focus on Japan process, working closely with offshore Japan processing team to ensure process SLA is met
  • Communicating with the wider Accounts Payable team and producing system reports to better manage Japan Accounts Payable processes
  • Keeping track of all Japanese payments and expenditures, including purchase orders, invoices, statements, etc.
  • Reconciling processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
  • Maintaining Japanese supplier records
  • Communicating with Japan supplier and Japan agent bank to make sure payment-related query is properly addressed timely
  • Communicating with various Japan Business units and controllers to address any account-related escalation
  • Preparing analyses of accounts and producing monthly reports
  • Continuing to improve the payment process
  • Work closely with the Japan Accenture team for local process requirements
  • ​Main contact for Japan agent bank queries
  • Support other APAC bank administration functions
  • Monitor and support month/year-end processes
  • Report on Aged Payables plus other ad hoc reporting where applicable
  • Responsible for AP-related queries from tax, audit, and local controllers
  • Identify improvements to the accounts payable process


  • Solid understanding of basic accounting and accounts payable principles
  • Good understanding of local Japanese regulatory requirements & tax rule
  • Must have 3+ years of working experience in accounting or related field
  • Fluent Japanese language skills
  • Ability to build good relationships with vendors and business units
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a broader team
  • Intermediate computer software skills, including Excel and Accounting packages
