Salary description: Competitive dependent on experience

Our client is a prominent global asset management firm seeking to hire a 2nd-level Vice President in their Hong Kong office in a Risk Consultant capacity to support the CRO in a range of operational and prudential risk functions. The role is for a Risk Management Consultant, based in Hong Kong. The individual will work within a regional Risk/Compliance team operating in a successful international Asset Management business, reporting to the International Chief Risk Officer. The role offers excellent exposure for someone looking to develop their career in an asset management based Risk Management role.

This is a broad ranging risk management position, working closely with the asset management division across the region to act in an operational and prudential risk oversight capacity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Under general direction, oversees the review, interpretation, and dissemination of current and proposed risk policies and procedures.
  • Provides consultation and advice to partners regarding risk mitigation and compliance. Establishes business development strategies that support the appropriate balance between risk and reward.
  • Reviews, disseminates, and interprets policies and procedures. Works to proactively establish and document related policies, procedures and standards within the parameters of any relevant laws and regulations.
  • Verifies that activities meet any federal, state and/or local legal and regulatory requirements and regulations and monitors outcomes/risk levels for the organisation or assigned area
  • Consults with partners regarding daily decisions that could pose risk and conflict with existing policy, and assist with client negotiations of new and existing business on various issues that may present elements of risk
  • Communicates and provides risk mitigation advice and requirements to managers and appropriate personnel
  • Identifies situations which pose significant risk and guides management in developing policies and/or procedures that create the proper balance between risk and reward
  • Interacts with regulators, internal and external auditors on regulatory topics as needed and appropriate
  • Provides direction and training to more junior staff.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Familiarity with international regulatory environment with focus on the APAC regional regulators
  • Strong Operational and Prudential Risk knowledge
  • Sound understanding of investment management products and services
  • Experience of Incident Investigation and Reporting
