Senior Fund Accountant – Asset Manager

Our client is a leading US Asset Manager with a sizeable presence in Sydney. They are seeking a senior fund accountant to join their team.

As a member of the small Operations team, the Senior Fund Accountant will be involved in a full spectrum of investment accounting and operational issues as well as providing business support to Fund Managers/Finance/Compliance teams and prepare various internal and external reporting.

A key part of the Senior Fund Accountant’s role is to provide full operational support to various Asset Management business units and to prepare regular monthly, and quarterly accounting for external clients and internal MIS reporting.

Responsibilities:

Review monthly, and quarterly financial fund reporting for the trusts. This involves communicating with the custodian and fund managers to ensure all information required to complete the accounts is received on a timely basis.

  • Cash flow instructions to custodian for income and expenses
  • Daily bank reconciliation
  • Review monthly unit pricing, financial accounts, and tax reports
  • Maintain the trusts investments on the investment system and reconcile this information to the general ledger on a monthly basis
  • Prepare quarterly accounts to support the quarterly reports which are sent to clients
  • Prepare monthly BAS returns, PAYG, and annual financial accounts, and tax return pack for the portfolios (including CGT and taxable income calculations)
  • Investigate queries from clients and Fund Managers on an ad-hoc basis
  • This person will also be involved in various projects initiated by the business or by clients e.g. Fund accounting transition for client portfolios and system upgrade or enhancements etc.

Qualifications & Experience required

5+ years’ experience in Fund administration with at least 1 years experience in a senior reviewing capacity across:

Performance & Attribution Reporting Manager

The Manager role sits within the Client Delivery team and is responsible for all aspects of fund performance, attribution and risk reporting, and client delivery. The role is responsible for the oversight and delivery of all investment performance, attribution, and risk reporting services.

The Manager is responsible for managing a team of investment performance analysts who interact directly with clients to ensure high-quality service delivery and outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Service Delivery -Oversight for the delivery of all performance, risk, and attribution reporting services to Australian clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to ensure the provision of a high level of service
  •  Oversight for performance production activity based in our global operations hub
  •  Lead client service review meetings, workshops, and system demonstrations, in addition to dealing with client queries and resolving issues in a timely and effective manner
  • Manage a small team of local client-facing analysts to ensure an ongoing high level of client service relating to service delivery
  • Projects & Change -Play a leading role associated with operational or IT-related change aimed at developing, extending, or improving services
  • Support the Implementation Manager on the implementation of new services and or on-boarding new business.

Technical skills and experience required:

  • Prior team leading / managerial experience
  • Extensive experience working within an investment and performance analytics environment: either Practical experience working in performance, risk, and attribution reporting functions within a funds administration environment or Practical experience working in performance-related project work (e.g. system implementation or process optimisation) outside of the normal BAU production cycle o Ideally experience managing a small service delivery team
  •  Practical and theoretical understanding of performance methodologies (e.g. daily time-weighted returns, modified dietz, IRR, etc.) & attribution methodologies (e.g. Brinson, arithmetic v geometric, and Fixed Income models)
  •  Understanding of market data indices (S&P/ASX, MSCI, etc.), characteristics (dividend yield, PE ratio, duration, etc.), and classification schemes (GICS, BICS, etc.)
  •  Knowledge of use and application of ex-post risk statistics such as tracking error, sharpe ratio, alpha, beta, volatility, etc. Understanding of ex-ante risk reporting principles will be highly valued.
  • Strong practical understanding of the various asset classes and instrument types, including derivatives and how they should be treated for purposes of performance measurement and exposure reporting
  • Strong MS Excel skills

Asset Management – Client Account Services Associate

A leading global fund manager with over US$1 trillion of funds under management is seeking a candidate with over 3 years’ relevant experience to join their Client Account Services team.

This role will be initially hired as a maternity leave contract for 18 months with a high chance of converting to permanent.

The successful candidate will complete the cyclical tasks associated with the funds’ rebate processes, including calculation preparation and payment value verification, instruction of payments across the business and external vendors, statement preparation, and issue resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Owning the end-to-end fund rebate process for the Australian Unit Trust clients, including Preparing instructions to transfer agencies and internal departments of rebate rates and payments by set deadlines each month, as defined both with the internal and external administration parties as well as under client agreements
  • Ensure that in-kind asset transfers associated with new accounts, additional fundings, partial withdrawals, or account terminations are reflected in all appropriate systems to enable accurate and timely portfolio management and trading in accounts.
    -Interface with broader Client Account Services Manager to gather pertinent information surrounding the nuances of each activity for communication and coordination with impacted internal teams to ensure a smooth transfer.
  • Transitioning the rebate process from London to Australia
    – Review the current process and work with the Finance teams & the Client Account Services team to determine how the function should be split between finance and the local client account service functions
    – Set up controls and checks to ensure that the calculations are accurate and within the legal agreements
    – Document the process and provide training to the accounts and client account team to carry out the process
    – Dealing with external custodians, responsible entity, product team, finance teams
  • Client Servicing for the Australian Unit Trust
    – Back up for the Client Account Analyst answering queries from underlying clients of the Australian Unit Trust
    – Dealing with Responsible Entity and external transfer agency in problem resolution where needed
    – Ensuring client issues identified are addressed daily to ensure no client transactions are outstanding.

EXPERIENCE

  • Over 3 years of funds operations experience and knowledge of requirements and the process for onboarding investment management clients across a variety of investment management business segments

Senior Performance Analyst – Asset Owner – 12-month initial contract

Our client is a leading fund which invests both directly and indirectly in all major asset classes, including cash, domestic and international fixed interest, currency, Australian and international equities, listed property, and private equity.

This is an exciting opportunity to join its Melbourne office in a temp to perm initial 12-month contract.

This role is responsible for fixed interest, equities, and multi-asset investment performance analysis, commentary, and conclusion support to the front office investment management process. The primary purpose of this role is to:

  • Co-ordinate delivery of multi-currency performance analysis and attribution at security and portfolio levels. Analysis will include attribution, market/competitor, and quant projects;
  • Co-ordinate and review reporting and respond to queries relating to investment performance;
  • Deliver multi-currency, security, and portfolio level attribution analysis and reporting – including detailed analysis identifying incremental return differences between the portfolio and a benchmark, detailed information on asset mix, portfolio characteristics, risk, the impact of turnover, market value, and market capitalisation;
  • Timely and accurate reporting, analysis, conclusions, and commentary on investments;
  • Liaise and interact with Portfolio Managers, Client Managers, Client Services, and external parties such as performance consultants and research houses.
  • Contribute to the development of efficiency and improvements to the Performance Analytics and Investment Control functions, processes, and procedures;
  • Work closely with team members across the Performance Analytics and Investment Control functions to ensure optimum output.

You will be a motivated and proven professional with a degree in commerce, business, or finance. You will have at least 5 years of performance analytics experience. You will have a solid understanding of fixed interest and equities products and attribution. You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a related field
  • 5+  years’ performance analytics experience
  • Experience in management of key investment management operations, functions, and processes
  • Good knowledge of the Australian & International funds management industry, including industry issues, trends, investment products, and processes
  • Good knowledge of securities both domestically and internationally

The team works within a matrix structure delivering into projects across all platforms. The team services both internal clients and divisions including Client Services, Operations, Fund Administration, Registry, Middle Office, Taxation and Regulatory Services, Product, Transitions Services plus also external clients/vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to contribute and understand the Project Initiation Document by defining the business problem or opportunity, relevant KPIs and business drivers
