The position will entail options market making in Asian market indices an stocks implementing both HFT and arbitrage strategies.

The ideal candidates will have over 2+ years experience in a similar high frequency trading position and who has traded/seen various trading strategies and also has a knowledge of various programming and back-testing skills such as C#, Python and R.

Head of Compliance – Institutional Equities

Our client is a leading institutional equities broker seeking to hire a new Head or Senior Manager of Compliance to run their Compliance function in Sydney.


  • Develop and drive the compliance strategy across the business in a consistent manner and to manage any synergies and gaps;
  • Execution and monitoring of risk management practices, operational issues and control breakdowns;
  • Track and report on non-compliance items to ensure remediation plans are in place and communicated appropriately;
  • Deal with, respond to and manage correspondence and statutory notices from ASIC;
  • Act as the contact point with ASIC;
  • Management of the risk framework within business
  • Provide a full compliance advisory service to the different business units;
  • Produce regular updates and report on regulatory concerns to ASIC;
  • Incidents, Errors and Breach management (market participant and AFSL licensee breaches);
  • Assist with AML & CTF compliance oversight and implementation;
  • Balance regulatory requirements with business requirements;
  • Provide constructive feedback to stakeholders in a professional manner and undertake training for gaps identified;
  • Produce and regularly update and communicate a regulatory framework working alongside the core compliance team;
  • Regularly promote compliance within business units;

  • Preferable but not essential, provide general legal advice e.g. review confidentiality deeds, supplier agreements, draft employment contracts etc.


  • Experienced compliance professional with a proven track-record in, and understanding of risk management and the regulatory and compliance environment in financial services and stockbroking.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience working in a legal/compliance capacity for a Australian Financial Services Licensee/stockbroker.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory framework governing financial services licensees and market participants
  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in preferably Law, also consider Audit, Finance, Commerce or a similar discipline.
  • Broking/Securities experience required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, resiliency and sound judgement.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a hands-on Investment Operations Manager to join the Melbourne office of our client to help lead and manage a growing investment operations team. Our client is a highly regarded Australian industry super fund that is growing quickly in both investment staff and assets-under-management. This is an important leadership role where you will be working closely with the CIO and interaction with the industry super-fund board.

Position Overview:

The primary function of the Investment Operations Manager is to:

  • Work with and assist the Head of Investment Operations to manage the assets of the Fund, focusing on the implementation and administration of the investment strategy, in accordance with the Board’s investment philosophies and principles
  • Day to day management of the relationship with the custodian
  • Manage the operational and middle office function associated with the fund’s investment program
  • Provide guidance and leadership for investment operations team members and coordination of the operational activities of the investment team

Custody Transition Consultant – 10-month contract

Our client is a prominent Australian industry super fund that is growing quickly and seeking to hire a Custody Transition Consultant to their Melbourne office. This is an important long-dated 10m contract position to support our client as they complete a custody transition from one custodian to the other. The ideal applicant will have direct custody asset transition experience ideally from both the client and custody side. Ideally you will have custody transitions project experience, including prior work within fund accounting, tax reporting and unit pricing.

The primary function of the Custody Transition Consultant is to:

  • Work with and assist the Head of Investment Operations and the Project Consultant to perform a wide range of actions and coordinate work across all aspects of the custody transition
  • Support and coordinate the transfer and re-registration of investment assets
  • Perform actions to coordinate and support the transfer of investment reporting functions
  • Contribute to the onboarding and integration of the custodian including liaising with external services providers as required

The Custody Transition Consultant will be expected to have skills and attributes as follows:

  • Knowledge of superannuation taxation, investment counting, unit pricing, and investment performance reporting
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and the operation of investment markets
  • Thorough understanding of the superannuation industry

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a custodian, superannuation fund or asset manager and will be paid on a fixed term basis on a 10m contract duration. This is an interim contract position beginning around September 2020 with a potential to extend past 10 months depending on performance.

Test Analyst – 6-month contract

Our client is seeking a Test Analyst to work a range of System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing on a 6-month contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create and execute System Integration testing (SIT) and User acceptance testing (UAT), including obtaining business signoff
  • Work closely with Business, Operations, Vendors and other stakeholders for test planning and execution
  • Produce system test deliverables i.e. test plan, test scripts, and test data to the agreed timeframes, budget and quality
  • Provide input into test plans and the management of defects in line with agreed procedures
  • Deliver test documentations i.e. test object matrix, requirement traceability matrix and test cases for planned releases
  • Test defect fixes and log new defects including relevant details into defect tracking system
  • Automation of regression testing pack to perform end-to-end system shakedown tests
  • Test Environment planning, setup and management to help with readiness for test commencement
  • Assist with release management and post release validation checks and reporting

Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Strong experience working on IRESS, ASX CHESS and/or MCM/DCS Interfaces
  • In depth knowledge working with clearing and settlement for Exchange Traded Options (ETO) & Equities
  • In depth finance experience including capital markets and brokerage services
  • Excellent system integration testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) experience
  • Experience in testing across diverse web based and think client systems, APIs, interfaces and data feeds
  • Experience in planning and executing functional and regression test cases
  • Test Automation experience using tools such as Selenium, Cucumber etc

The ideal applicant would have a strong test analyst background, ideally with some equity and exchange traded equity derivatives experience, within a test environment. Ideally you will have strong Australian test analyst experience, with experience across various testing platforms such as Selenium & Cucumber.


Portfolio Manager – Equities

Our client is a leading global firm with offices in 5 locations around the world. They are building out their team in Sydney and are seeking an experienced APAC Equities focused Portfolio Manager.

To be considered you must have:

  • A clearly defined scalable strategy and investment process.
  • The strategy must be based on a beta neutral framework that generates alpha returns in the Asian Equity Markets
  • Several years of demonstrated positive returns.

You will have been heavily involved in the research of the strategy as well as its implementation, and are able to develop new strategies from idea to implementation.  In addition, you will have a solid understanding of the dynamics of markets, and use these dynamics to display a qualitative appreciation of when their strategy performs well and poorly.


  • Ideally several years’ experience as a PM, or at least 5 years as an Analyst ready to manage money;
  • Clearly defined scalable strategy and investment process.
  • Several years of demonstrated positive returns.
  • Clearly defined universe that is ideally Asia-Pacific Equity markets focused.
  • The strategy must be based on a beta neutral framework that generates alpha returns in the Asian Equity Markets
