Our four coverage locations across Asia Pacific will be shining brightly in the coming weeks, with spectacular light shows and festivals set to boldly illuminate the Southern Hemisphere.
Singapore: i Light
The Lion City presents i Light Singapore again this June, Asia’s leading sustainable light festival. Running since 2010, i Light will once again transform Marina Bay and Raffles Place into a mesmerising open-air gallery. This year’s theme, Movement, explores the dynamic relationship between light and motion, featuring 14 captivating installations by 17 local and international artists.
Highlights include WAVE: An interactive piece at The Promontory where tapping silver poles mimics the rhythm of raindrops and Let’s Fish the Sun!: A whimsical installation allowing visitors to “reel” the sun back into the sky. Beyond the art, the festival village, GastroBeats, offers 40 food vendors, live music, and even pickleball courts. i LIght Singapore will be illuminating the city nightly from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.
Hong Kong: A Symphony of LIghts
Hong Kong has a permanent light show at 8:00pm each evening which has entertained tourists and locals alike since 2004. Featuring lasers, searchlights, and LED screens, over 40 buildings are involved in the nightly performance. The show features music from the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as traditional Chinese flutes and string bowed instruments like the Erhu. The best spots to view the nightly event are the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and the Avenue of Stars, the promenade at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wanchai. You can also catch it from sightseeing ferries on the harbour.
Sydney: Vivid
Prepare for the harbour city to transform into a kaleidoscopic playground as Vivid Sydney returns from 22 May to 13 June. Celebrating its 16th year, the festival will once again take over the city with a multi-artform program spanning Light, Music, Minds, and Food.
Award-winning Vivid features a 6.5-kilometre Light Walk along the Sydney Harbour foreshore, while the iconic Sydney Opera House will feature Opera Mundi, an original work by French artist Yann Nguema and his studio Anima Lux, set to a score by Mischa Blanos. This year Barangaroo Reserve will feature a 23-metre tall installation, the tallest in Vivid history, and the spectacular Star-Bound Drone Show will feature 22 shows across 11 nights. These are just some of the incredible attractions at this year’s Vivid but, of course, it’s not just about the lights. Over 100 artists and global thought leaders will be participating this year, with major musical acts performing throughout the festival.
2026’s food program is set to be the largest to date. The Strand Arcade will host The Long Table Dinner on 30 May, and the Vivid Fire Kitchen, now located at Barangaroo Reserve, will feature open-fire cooking demonstrations by chefs like Annita Potter and Mark Best.
Melbourne: Lightscape
Lightscape returns to Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens this winter, featuring brand new installations created by artists from all over the world. Sip on a mulled wine or hot chocolate while you cruise along the glowing pathways and immerse yourself in the multi-sensory light and sound experience. The award-winning Lightscape runs between 12 June and 2 August.
