The firm’s first-ever Global Dividend and Buyback Index for Q1 2026 showed global dividends reached US$424.5 billion during the quarter, marking a 10.1 per cent year-on-year increase. Despite a noisy macroeconomic backdrop, Janus Henderson noted that dividend growth was broad-based, with meaningful increases across North America, Europe, Japan and the UK. The report measures the progress global firms are making in returning capital to investors through dividends and buyouts. It is based on the activity of 1,500 of the world’s largest entities by market cap, covering 45 global markets.

Echoing Capital Group’s Q1 dividend report, the firm highlighted the strength of Australian dividends for the quarter, with a mining boom causing a comeback in the country’s performance. Asia-Pacific payouts totalled US$60.6 billion for the quarter, up 8.2 per cent in underlying terms, with Australia standing out as a strong performer — ranking second only to China in its share of regional dividends by market. Australia recorded US$14.9 billion in payouts, accounting for 24.6 per cent of the region’s dividend share. This also meant it ranked 7th in the world for dividend payouts.
