Citi appoints new director of capital markets origination for Asia Pacific

Eric Au has been appointed director of capital markets Asia Pacific for Citi’s commercial bank.

In this new role, Au will partner with the bank’s teams across capital markets origination (CMO), corporate and investment banking (CIB) and commercial banking (CCB) to drive further growth in capital markets financing opportunities for Citi’s commercial banking clients.

Inbound M&A down in 2015

Foreign acquisitions of Australian companies are down by 28.5 per cent in the first half of 2015 compared with the same period last year, according to the latest data released by Thomson Reuters.

Overseas firms invested US$18.1 billion into Australian companies in the the first half of 2015, down from US$25.3 billion in the first half of 2014, according to Thomson Reuters.

“The bulk of M&A deal flow targeted Australia’s industrials sector with US$6.3 billion, witnessing a six-fold increase in deal value and the highest semi-annual period on record.

New Australia and NZ boss for State Street

State Street has appointed a new head of Australia and New Zealand for its investment servicing business, State Street Global Services.

Paul Khoury has been appointed as the head of State Street Global Services for Australia and New Zealand, responsible for business and operations, effective from 30 June.

Mr Khoury has been with State Street since 2001 and was most recently head of Asset Manager Sector Sales for the Asia Pacific region. Before that, he was the chief operating officer for global services in Australia.

AIMS Financial Group taps Craig Mason to lead rebranded BBY

The rebranded BBY Asia Pacific Group has appointed former Pershing Securities boss Craig Mason to lead the firm, while emphasising the stockbroking and advisory company would keep a tight rein on risk taking.Mr Mason starts just two weeks after BBY entered voluntary administration after failing to repay a $6 million loan to St George Bank. Last week, the George Wang led AIMS Financial Group agreed to buy the remnants of BBY, via an asset purchase agreement and offered about 120 employees contracts.

The deal which is part of a restructure of BBY, was agreed with administrators KPMG and receivers PPB Advisory, although may still require a deed of company arrangement.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS) Appoints New Investment Banking Heads

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has named new co-heads for its investment banking operations in Asia. The existing head of the investment bank, Mattew Westerman, is said to be relocated to another senior role in London. The announcement was made in an internal memo sent to employees. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news.

Kate Richdale and Andrea Vella will be the new co-heads of the Asian region that excludes Japan, while the investment banking operations in New Zealand and Australia will be led by Christian Johnston.
