Franklin Templeton launches institutional active crypto unit

Franklin Templeton has acquired cryptocurrency investment manager, 250 Digital, and established its own active digital asset management division known as Franklin Crypto. The acquisition includes the 250 Digital investment team, led by crypto industry veterans Christopher Perkins and Seth Ginns, and all liquid cryptocurrency strategies previously run by CoinFund. Franklin Templeton will invest in these strategies as part of the agreement.

Perkins will serve as head of Franklin Crypto with Ginns as chief investment officer alongside Franklin Templeton digital assets investment veteran Tony Pecore. Franklin Crypto will report to Sandy Kaul, head of innovation at Franklin Templeton. Franklin Crypto will offer institutional investors actively managed cryptocurrency strategies, integrating the investment capabilities of the former 250 Digital team with Franklin Templeton’s global distribution.
